Arthur D. Little in the Community
Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club sponsorship
The Arthur D. Little Environment & Risk Practice is the official sponsor of the Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club (CULRC) at various destinations throughout the world. We are proud to be associated with one of the world?s most competitive sports. Their pursuits demonstrate many of the attributes that we look for in our staff: an ability to balance demanding intellectual activities with a rewarding life outside work, determination to produce top class results, strength of character in demanding conditions and the commitment to devote energy to important issues. Our support helps CULRC maintain their outstanding reputation, to compete as a club at the highest levels and to see their most talented oarsmen and coxswains achieve international recognition.

Imperial College project sponsorship
Two Arthur D. Little consultants (Chemical Engineering graduates from Imperial College), returned to their university departments during a recent spring term. Through liaison with professors at the department they designed and carried out a series of workshops to introduce and mentor final year students in the use of the HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) technique. The 25 students who attended the sessions successfully applied the technique to key chemical plant sections designed in teams during their ten week long "design project". Students were able to generate recommendations for changes to the design and to prioritise these according to the expected safety benefit.
Manchester Business School
Our Health Care Practice has close links with Manchester Business School. Students at school are working with the Practice on a research project on UK, US and Swiss pharmaceutical companies. The project scope includes: benchmarking analysis of market planning tools and techniques utilised by mid-large size pharmaceutical firms with particular emphasis on pan-European marketing strategies, in-depth examination of business processes, financial tools and value-based metrics which underpin best practice in global pharmaceutical product planning.
Time to read
As part of the Business in the Community initiative to help the local community, we have built up links with a local school. The aim is to improve children?s literacy skills by attending weekly lunchtime reading sessions with groups of children. The scheme is co-ordinated by a member of the consulting team and has proved to be very beneficial to the children and very much enjoyed by staff.
BG challenge
As part of its community and charity support programme, Arthur D. Little entered a team for the BG Energy Challenge held in late Summer. In 2003 Arthur D. Little was one of 18 teams including ExxonMobil, BG Energy, ConocoPhilips, BHPBilliton and Transco. BG Energy have sponsored this unique corporate event for the last eight years. The ?Challenge? is for teams of up to seven people from companies in the oil & gas sector to climb two mountains in the UK (~60 km hill walking) and complete a third mystery task - all within 24 hours. As part of this event each team pledges to raise a minimum of ?5,000 for CARE International, an international charity that undertakes long term redevelopment projects in some of the poorest countries in the world. A number of other sponsorship events are also organised to raise money.
